Grounded for Life
Sean Finnerty and his lovely wife, Claudia, became parents right out of high school. Now 32, they struggle to keep their lives (and three children) under control. Claudia is a hostess at a swank restaurant, and Sean works in the subway tunnels. Working 9 to 5 and having three kids to maintain isn't an easy task, but they're doing the best that they can. Oldest daughter Lily, 14, is more than a handful. At that age where she thinks the world revolves around her, Lily devours the majority of the Finnerty's free time. Her little brother, Jimmy, is bookish to say the least, and stays out of trouble -- for the most part. And then there's the baby of the family, Henry, who's just a little off. Hyperactive and mischievous, Henry is usually secondary when it comes to problematic children. Helping Sean and Claudia deal with the brood is Sean's father, Walt, a crotchety man whose idea of a learning experience is teaching the boys how to dig a hole. If he hadn't been a father, he wo
Sean catches Lily and Brad making-out in the front seat of a car, which causes him to throw a bucket of chicken at the windshield. Sean tries to solve the problem and winds up finding out that Claudia is the "neighborhood hot mom."
When Sean finds a fake ID in Lily's room, he doesn't know how to confront her since he was in her room 'illegally.'
The Finnerty family attends a Ramones concert which prevents Jimmy from completing a school assignment. This causes Sean to write a note to Jimmy's teacher explaining what had happened, in turn getting Jimmy suspended.
Sean runs into an old high school friend who has become a priest. Lily gets in trouble at school because her skirt is too short causing Sean to interfere, making the situation worse. Meanwhile, Jimmy thinks he is possessed by the devil.
Lily gets busted at Action Mountain after she told Sean that she was going out to dinner with a friend and her mom.
Eddie and Sean are given money from their deceased mother. Eddie spends his share of the money on a trip to New Orleans, while Sean spends his share on a Gibson Les Paul Classic even though the family would benefit more from a water heater.
Lily ditches Claudia because she embarrassed Lily in front of "11th-grade cheerleaders." Also, the truth comes out that Lily is a virgin.
Sean has the duty of bringing Henry to the barber shop, but instead he keeps procrastinating and doesn't get Henry to the barber shop on time. So Sean decides to cut Henry's hair himself, but does an awful job, causing Jimmy to lie and feel guilty. Meanwhile, Lily has a hard time deciding who to bring to a 'No Doubt' concert.
Sean refuses to talk Eddie up to a single woman because the one time it led to a relationship, Eddie faked his own death to get out of it.
Claudia tries to throw a wedding shower for her friend, but is soon interrupted by Sean and the boys after a blunder at the Yankee game.
It's Jimmy's birthday but the Finnerty's are at the hospital. Grampa reports Sean to a police officer who happens to be present - for attacking him. What happened at Jimmy's birthday party?
Sean and Claudia are working overtime to save money for a holiday in Cancún. They don't have enough time to watch over their children - who take full advantage of that.
Sean volunteers to referee for Henry's soccer team and faces some unexpected moral dilemmas. And Lily has a crush on the soccer concession stand guy and begins obsessing about him.
Lily's school has a talent show. For some reason, the audience boos at Lily's dance group's lewd dance performance. Lily gets upset, because she feels embarrassed and worthless. But what really happened at the show?
At a relative's wedding, Lily learns that she was born before her parents got married.
