Adapting the original feature film, Kirk retakes command of a retrofitted Enterprise to intercept an unidentified object that is a mere three days from Earth. This doesn't go over well with Commander Deckerd, who was originally slated for command. Along the way, members of the original crew start to rejoin the group.
