A Christmas Tale
Un Conte De Noël/Un conte de noel
A fractured family reunites for Christmas, but with a decidedly French sensibility and a variety of ways of telling the story by director Arnaud Desplechin. Calm and purposeful Catharine Deneuve is the matriarch facing leukemia and her messed-up brood (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly's Mathieu Amalric entertainingly infuriates) vie for attention, reconciliation and love. Too long at 150 minutes, it wears the patience of the most ardent fan of the stellar cast.
