Israeli filmmaker Ari Folman's animated documentary about his country's ill-considered 1982 incursion into Lebanon reveals war's horror and hopelessness in an entirely new light. The use of animation doesn't trivialize; on the contrary, it heightens the nightmare effect of harsh memories jarred back into focus.
