Set in 1964, Doubt centers on a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him abusing a black student. He denies the charges, and much of the play's quick-fire dialogue tackles themes of religion, morality and authority.

An intense human drama set in a Catholic school in New York City in the early 1960s. Meryl Streep gives an electric performance as the indomitable principal, Sister Aloysius, who becomes convinced that the local priest, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, is sexually abusing an altar boy. Her campaign to get rid of the man, in the absence of any proof of indecent acts, raises uncomfortable questions about moral certainty - in particular, can a well-intentioned crusade become a witch hunt when powerful conviction is all that drives a person to action? (Mike Fuhrmann)
