In 1950, 28-year-old outlaw Salvatore Giuliano is found gunned down in a Sicilian courtyard. Little is as it seems. The film moves back and forth between the late 1940s, when Giuliano and other reprobates were recruited by separatist politicians to do their fighting, and the days leading up to and following Giuliano's death.

The mysterious and violent death of an infamous Sicilian bandit sparks a heated investigation in director Francesco Rosi's bold Italian neorealistic classic -- arriving on DVD in this feature-packed release from The Criterion Collection. The feature is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen, offering audio rendered in Italian Dolby Digital Mono with optional English subtitles. As with most Criterion releases, this disc offers an abundance of bonus materials, including new audio commentary from film historian Peter Cowie, a 55-minute documentary on the director produced by Italian television, new interviews with Rosi and film critic/author Tullio Kezich, an original theatrical trailer, an essay by film historian/critic Michel Ciment, and written tributes to the director from Martin Scorsese, Federico Fellini, and Francis Ford Coppola.
