Bartering for freedom with the Elders, Reed and Norrin chase after Malice to retrieve the gems. Realizing that they are being held under the influence of Chaos and Order, the pair hurry to free Sue and return home. They catch her, but in the process, Reed becomes connected to the Soul Gem, and is used as a conduit for the In Betweener.
