Luke forces Jack Smith to explain that he hired Luke to protect the gold, and it was Goldbug who stole it. Thunderbolt remembers how his brother Lonnie was murdered, and how that started a chain of events that left him with the speed powers he means to use to avenge Lonnie's death. Later, Thunderbolt helps Luke track down Goldbug, but the villain escapes and seals the two heroes into an exploding rocket! However, when he returns, he discovers they "pounded their way out" before the rocket blewe up. Goldbug flees again but the heroes board his craft, so he jams the controls and sends them towards Times Square while he escapes using a wafer thin parachute sewn into his costume...
