Following his confrontation with the werewolf, Jack Russell, Dracula pursued Rachel van Helsing. She was escaping with the diary of Russell's father, which contained spells and incantations from the fell book the Darkhold. Among them, in that journal, lies a copy of the Montesi Formula, a spell that, if cast, would eradicate all vampires on the planet.
As the pair struggle, the helicopter Rachel was escaping in crashes leaving the Vampire and the hunter stranded together in the Alps, days away from human contact. The gusting winds prevent Dracula from flying away as a bat, but without blood even he can't survive the trip back to his castle. And so the pair must travel together... Rachel's leg is broken and she can't possibly make it alone. And Dracula must keep her alive as an emergency store of blood, when he is beyond all need.
