Rex Mason, soldier of fortune, returns from overseas to see his fiance Sapphire Stagg. Her father, Simon, hires Rex for one last mission worth a million dollars, and sends his Ape-Man servant Java with him. While searching an Egyptian pyramid for the powerful Orb of Ra, Java traps Rex, hoping to win Sapphire for himself. Rex is exposed to the meteor that the Orb of Ra was made from, and has gained the ability to transform into various elements. Simon agrees to search for a cure, but has no intentions of doing so. Java is upset that he still has competition for Sapphire's attention, and decides to do something about that.
