Ch'p and Salaak come to Mosaic to get answers to their new questions about the Corps. John recruits Ch'p to help him stand watch on the world. John has been trying to build roads to facilitate commerce and bind the different peoples together, but something smashes the roads as he sleeps. Ch'p faces the beast on his shift and survives nicely, only to fall to a different beast later.
