Justice League of America, Vol. 1

A group of rich socialites enjoy attending a secret location to watch gladiators fight to the death. Superman and Wonder Woman work together to capture thieves who have stolen from STAR Labs, sinking their boat in Metropolis harbour but before they can bring the thieves ashore, they are attacked by a gigantic creature that appears to be half man, half whale. In Central City, the Flash stops a similar group of thieves from robbing an armoured car only to be felled by a human/rhino hybrid. In San Francisco, Elongated Man follows a thief to a dealer but is attacked by birds under the control of someone called Rex. In New York, Firestrom faces off against Reena, a cat/woman hybrid who thinks he has been sent to return her to Rex. She realises he is not there to return her and instead promises to tell him everything in return for protection. Aboard the JLA satellite, a meeting is convened and Firestrom brings Reena to it. In Egypt, Hawkman - attending an archaeological dig - finds his team mates attacked by giant scorpion/human hybrids but despite his best efforts, is overwhelmed by them.
