An abandoned coal mine has been the stakes of a war between two criminal dynasties, those of Old King Coal of the countryside and The Pearly King of Crime representing the cities of England. But this mine is worth the lives of thousands to these Criminal Courts. After saving his son, The Pearly King tells Batman that his family was descended from King Arthur of legend. They know the location of his legendary Cauldron of Rebirth. At the bottom of that empty mine, Dick believes he'll find a Lazarus Pit, possibly the last one in existence. And if so, with the aid of the Knight and the Squire, he plans to help Bruce Wayne cheat death one more time.
