As the Justice League and Society prepare for their annual meeting, a problem occurs with the Earth-Two transmatter and instead of the Society appearing on the JLA satellite, Earth-Three's Crime Syndicate appear instead. With the element of surpise, the Syndicate defeat the League and use their shuttle craft to fly to Earth, planning revenge against Per Degaton. The heroes of Earth-Two, meanwhile, have been transported to the same interdimensional prison that the Crime Syndicate were banished to at the end of Justice League of America #30. While the prison effcetively held the Society's counterparts of the Syndicate, it was not designed for Dr Fate or Starman who use their powers to break free and search for a tear in reality that will lead them to Earth-Two. Finding a tear, they travel not to Earth-Two but to Earth-Prime which has been devastated by a nuclear war which, they discover, was caused by Per Degaton. Back on the JLA satellite, the heroes of the League recover and determine to find out what happened to the Justice Society. They use the transmatter to travel to Earth-Two but find the Justice Society's headquarters abandoned and the entire planet under the control of Per Degaton. Retreating back to the Society's headquarters, Superman aids the other heroes in travelling back through time to the days of World War II. There they find the Society's headquarters undamaged but instead of their friends, find the All Star Squadron.
