Plot

The reappearance of the venerable ghost that haunts the Combermere estate leads ex-captain Quintus Dauntry to meet lively widow Cecelia Walters and her son, Tommy. Cecelia's aristocratic in-laws have seized her inheritance until she surrenders custody of Tommy--something she will never do. So Quint hatches a plot to restore her fortune.
