Detective Sloane Pearson is new to the Sex Crimes Division and her first big case is as tough as they come: A rapist is on the loose, dragging women to deserted buildings in downtown Chicago and forcing them to fight—knowing, of course, that he’ll win…From the slums of Chicago’s west side to the glittering Loop skyscrapers, Sloane tries—and fails—to follow a steady lead. Meanwhile, she is approached by a hungry young reporter who’s latched on to the story. Sloane offers help in declaring the case serial, only to lose support: Her bosses demand she get a suspect—or move on. But when someone Sloane knows is attacked, she finds herself on a case that’s officially turned personal. Now Sloane will do whatever it takes to capture this violent predator…even if that means risking becoming a victim herself.
