Plot

Stone Barrington, ex-cop turned lawyer and investigator, travels to Venice where he is about to be married to Dolce, the beautiful daughter of a New York Mafioso. Before the ceremonies can be completed he learns of the sudden death of Vance Calder, a film star and husband of Stone's former love, Arrington. Arrington, confused about the exact events of the night in question and fearing that she is about to be arrested, asks Stone to fly to Los Angeles to help her. When he arrives he finds the press and even the LAPD convinced that she is guilty. He also discovers evidence of Vance's flagrant infidelity. As he begins to fall back under Arrington's spell, he must deal with an angry Dolce, who is convinced that a Venetian civil ceremony still makes them legally man and wife. Stone must make his choice even as he tries to save Arrington's very life.
