A Cold Creek Homecoming
Safe Harbor is a story first released by Sherryl Woods in 1987 that seems just slightly dated. A Cold Creek Homecoming by RaeAnne Thayne is somewhat newer having first been released in 2009 and both are decent contemporary stories that may not set your world on fire, but are nice, engaging romances for those of us who haven't read them before. Safe Harbor is the story of a young, wealthy widow named Tina Harrington who along with running her late husband's large company, has welcomed into her life and her home an assorted group of homeless people who have very quickly become like family to her. Unfortunately, her handsome new neighbor Drew Landry has his suspicions about what's actually going on in that house and feels compelled to ask the state to intervene with an investigation. That's before he has a chance to get to know the independent but kindhearted Tina and the wonderful people who make their home with her. It's not long before Drew is attracted to Tina on a personal level and is distraught to learn all the trouble his interference has caused her. Tina knows Drew is sexy as all get out and that he's attracted to her, but she also knows he is the source of all her troubles and when she finally let's him in, it's not long before she gets some news that makes her think she was right all along not to trust him... but looks can be deceiving. In A Cold Creek Homecoming, handsome and successful Quinn Southerland races home to the bedside of his beloved foster mother Jo who is dying of cancer only to discover that the girl who made his young life a misery in high school is now the nurse who is tenderly caring for Jo. Many years have passed since Tess Claybourne has seen Quinn but she remembers very well the horrible way she treated him and she isn't at all surprised that he can barely stand the sight of her. But as Jo grows steadily weaker and Quinn and his cousin Easton anxiously await the arrival of his two foster brothers, Tess and Quinn are forced to take a closer look at each other and they slowly realize that neither one is the same person they used to be and the line between hatred and love is a lot thinner than they might think and sometimes tragedy can lead to passion. Two standard, easy romances by two established authors with the second story slightly better than the first in my opinion, but while they were enjoyable to read, neither of them are romances I'm likely to remember a month from now. Four stars for Sherryl Woods and RaeAnne Thayne in Safe Harbor and A Cold Creek Homecoming.
