William Newell was one of the greatest Bible teachers of his day. A friend and colleague of D.L. Moody and R.A. Torrey, he taught thousands of people as a Bibke teacher in Moody's Bible college. His book, Romans Verse by Verse, is hands down one of the best Bible commentaries on the book of Romans ever written--if not the best. Newell is true to the Pauline dispensational view of the scriptures and is clear about the error of Reformation theologians who try to make a good show for the doctrine of justification but miss the mark on sanctification by trying to keep the Law as the rule of life for the Christian. Newell is also the author of some great hymns like At Calvary and Only Sinner Saved by Grace. This book has stood the test of time for a reason. William Newell had an incredible grasp of Scripture, which he was able to share clearly on the printed page.
