Plot

Translated from the Greek text used in the 1881 Revision and contains not only the Epistles of Paul but also the Epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude. Each letter is prefaced by notes on the author, the date, the destination and the theme. Also, they are translated into the language which is commonly used today. They read like actual letters, not theological treatises, though every care has been taken to make the translation accurate. --Summary from Amazon.com

Reviews from Amazon.com: ''
I heard Walter Hooper reference C.S. Lewis's introduction to Phillip's translation as being the thing that immediately attracted him to Lewis. I'm thankful to have tracked it down and am now enjoying not only Lewis' intro but the translation itself.
___
Phillips translated from the Greek with a mind to keeping the personal letter feeling that Paul's writings likely evoked in the first century church. I find it a useful and lovely counterpoint to the scholarly committee translations that are commonly accepted.
