Plot

Of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, Twenty-one are epistles, and thirteen of these bear the name of Paul. These epistles, comprising almost half of the New Testament, have had a profound effect on mankind. The letter from itself is unique in that its prominent use is found only in the New Testament among the world's sacred writings. The Pauline Epistles serves to introduce all of Paul's writings--epistles which without question are among the most precious treasures of the Christian Church. Dr. Hiebert discusses the historical circumstances of their writing, deals with critical problems, and provides helpful general information on the content and nature of the books themselves. The author has not sought to offer a verse-by-verse exposition of these Scripture portions, but rather a general guide to their systematic interpretation. Discussed in general and separately, these epistles are treated in chronological order with emphasis on their eschatology, soteriology, Christology, or ecclesiology. The Pauline Epistles enables the reader to concentrate completely on Paul's thought. Specialization of this nature frees the student to acquire a deeper appreciation of a major part of the New Testament. The detailed outlines and lists of useful books provides guidelines for quickly grasping the actual biblical content plus an opportunity to receive recommended help interpreting difficult portions of Paul epistles.
