Dr. John P. Milton (not to be confused with the John Milton who wrote Paradise Lost) was Professor of Old Testament and Catechetics at Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota, beginning in 1941. John Milton’s public announcement in the 1960s of how his mind had changed regarding the Bible had a deep and lasting influence on the Lutheran churches in America and their seminaries. Milton saw with new appreciation the human factors in the Bible, while continuing to understand it as the word of God. He recognized, though, that even the confession of the Bible as God’s word required reinterpretation. This change of mind and his essay on that change came much later than this book on Psalms. His other writings include Holy Garments, People Are Asking, More People Are Asking, God's Word to Men, and Preaching from Isaiah. His essay on how his mind had changed regarding the Bible can be found at https://wordandworld.luthersem.edu/content/pdfs/32-4_Word/32-4_Milton.pdf .
