The Noonday Press (1990)
Abraham Joshua Heschel was one of this country's most widely respected and loved religious leaders, and a writer of extra ordinary gifts. The Sabbath is a profound, scholarly, and beautiful meditation on the nature and celebration of the Seventh Day. Its thesis is that Judaism is a religion of time, not space, and the Sabbath symbolizes the santification of time, so that "the Sabbaths are our great cathedrals." They represent a day of separation from space and the material things that fill it, a day of devotion to time and the eternity that fills it.
