Plot

Hugely noticed and widely discussed in its day, Ellis' Jewish liberation theology now seems even more relevant, and its prophetic call even more urgent, in the light of current events in the Middle East and post September 11th. Ellis is one of the best known of liberal Jewish theologians, and his arguments in this book remain highly controversial. The book assesses what it means to be Jewish and challenges the notion that the only way in which the Holocaust can be countered is through the misappropriation of power and land by the Israeli state. The book asks Jewish people to conceive of the Holocaust in a wider context (especially in the light of various Christian liberation theologies, and think of the sufferings of all people -including the Palestinians.
