Plot

This Lenten series includes sermons for Ash Wednesday, the five Sundays of Lent, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunday, and the Sunday after Easter. The messages issue a call for repentance, appropriate to the Lenten season, yet throughout the series they reach deeply inside relating to human hurts and needs. "Barabbas Speaks" (Fifth Sunday in Lent) is a first-person story sermon spoken from Barabbas' point of view. The Palm Sunday sermon, "The Strength To See It Through," merges the celebratory nature of the triumphant day with the dark Passion yet to come. "Resurrection Of The Heart," an Easter Sunday sermon, preaches forgiveness in very personal terms, and "Late For Easter" (Sunday after Easter) plants the good news in those troubled hearts which haven't yet received it. Erskine White's first twenty years of ministry were spent in urban settings as a low-income community organizer and then as pastor. He recently left the pulpit to become a teacher of religion and history at the University School of Nashville. He has previously published four books: Some Assembly Required, Together In Christ, The Victory Of The Cross, and A More Urgent Season (all CSS Publishing Company). His other publications include numerous articles in a variety of periodicals, professional journals, and books on religious, social, political, and historical subjects.
