George Lutz (Ryan Reynolds) and his family move into an old house in Long Island, New York. The house used to belong to a family that was murdered a year earlier. One of the family members killed his parents and siblings with a rifle, claiming he heard voices telling him to do it. The Lutz family starts to hear voices, and see ghosts. George is greatly affected, and begins to act very odd. He becomes aggressive, and poses a threat to his family. His wife, Kathy, has a priest bless the house, but is told they should simply leave. George eventually snaps, and tries to kill his family.
