Babylon 5
A disappointment after the superb two previous seasons, the final run of Babylon 5 found Claudia Christian departed and Ivanova replaced by Captain Elizabeth Lochley (Tracy Scoggins), who in a soap-opera twist turned out to be Sheridan's first wife. Sheridan was promoted to President of the Interstellar Alliance and the action moved to a group of telepaths seeking sanctuary from the PSI-Corp on B5. Giving a prominent role to Patricia Tallman's Lyta Alexander, a love story for her was woven with the leader of the telepaths, Byron (Robin Atkin Downs). Meanwhile the aftermath of the Shadow War was explored as the origin of human telepaths became clear in "Secrets of the Soul," and the appearance of PSI-Corp's Bester (Walter Koenig) brought the plight of the refugees to a powerful close in "A Tragedy of Telepaths" and "Phoenix Rising."
This was immediately followed by a rare episode not written by J. Michael Straczynski. Much was expected of "Day of the Dead," penned by Neil Gaiman, the British creator of DC's landmark Sandman comic and graphic novel series. Yet despite a change of tone including a guest appearance by Penn & Teller as 23rd-century comedy favorites Rebo & Zooty, the story proved an incongruous side trip into an unexplained twilight zone of fantasy. As usual the season picked up toward the end, with a string of fine political episodes leading to "The Fall of Centauri Prime" and the haunting "Objects at Rest," in which Sheridan and Delenn leave Babylon 5 for new quarters on Minbar.
The final episode, "Sleeping in Light," was directed by J. Michael Straczynski and made an epilogue to the series. Set 20 years later, after all the sound and fury this quiet, elegiac tale is the apotheosis of the love story that proved the balance to the tragedy of the preceding darkness. A personal story resolved against a background of the epic, at once transcendent, deeply human, and profoundly optimistic, "Sleeping in Light" is as moving as any hour in the history of television drama and a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to one of the greatest series ever made. --Gary S. A day in the life of Alfred Bester, who starts his day in Psi Corps HQ, where he is well liked and respected. He gets an assignment to track down a rogue telepath. Two recruits accompany him. They follow the telepath's trail to Babylon 5, where he isn't as popular.
Delenn reassigns Lennier to a Ranger training mission on the border of Centauri space. Vir learns he is the new Centauri ambassador to Babylon 5.
Sheridan finally discovers why Delenn had Lennier assigned to the White Star Fleet, and orders his ship to return. But Lennier takes his fighter and continues his mission, where he finally gets the information the Alliance needs. Lyta contacts G'Kar and reminds him of the offer he made to her in "The Gathering." She's willing to help the Narn in exchange for money to find a home world for telepaths.
The Alliance show the member worlds evidence of the Centauri actions, while Londo and Vir are in their room with copies of the evidence. Eventually they're let into the meeting, where they all see the evidence Lennier gathered. Sheridan comes up with a plan to peacefully enforce a blockade, but Garibaldi's issues jeopardize his plans.
Londo and G'Kar return to Centauri Prime to figure out who in the government started the attacks, and are put in jail. G'Kar eventually figures a way for Londo to get out, and Londo tries to gather support. Garibaldi learns of two member worlds's plans to attack Centauri Prime. He informs Sheridan, who rushes off to try and stop the attack. Delenn and Lennier head back to Minbar to convince the council to build new ships, but are attacked in hyperspace. Lyta and Franklin find out what's been controlling the Centauri attack fleet.
On the now devastated Centauri Prime, Londo ascends to the throne after learning to his horror his secret masters who arranged all this.
Back on Babylon 5, G'Kar finds himself the focus of a Narn religious movement while Garibaldi and Lyta have their own personal problems.
Garibaldi and Lise are going to get married. He'll run her late husband's company. An assassin is hired to kill Lise. Zack has a plan to smoke him out, but another person wants G'Kar dead as well. Both attacks are prevented. Garibaldi deals with the people who ordered the hit on Lise. G'Kar and Lyta leave the station.
The various veterans of Babylon 5 prepare to go their separate ways, but not before Lennier makes a terrible but foretold mistake.
Nearing the end of his 20 year life extension, Sheridan bids his farewells to all his friends and family, while the now obsolete Babylon 5 is prepared for decommissioning.
