Drowning Mona

Mona Dearly (Bette Midler) is the most hated woman in Verplanck, New York. She is bitter, mean and hateful. When her car drives off a cliff, police chief Wyatt Rash (Danny Devito) must investigate who in the town might have cased her death. Everyone in town is a suspect. Mona’s son, Jeff (Marcus Thomas) , has plenty of reason to hate his belittling mother. Mona’s much beleaguered husband (William Fitchner) is having an affair with a waitress (Jamie Lee Curtis), giving them both reason to kill Mona. Jeff’s business partner, Bobby (Casey Affleck), has threatened Mona in public. Complicating Wyatt’s job is that Bobby is his soon to be son-in-law. Could Wyatt’s own daughter, Ellen (Neve Campbell), be involved in the crime? As Wyatt unravels the mystery, the question might be who didn’t want Mona dead.
