Plot

Ousep Chacko is a failure in life who thinks highly of himself. His career as an author never saw daylight and as a journalist he was never extraordinary. While his wife manages to do everything possible to raise their children, Ousep sticks to his loser ways. His wife is fed up of him and secretly contemplates to murder him. Their two kids are Unni, who is a passionate cartoon artist and Thoma, who is much younger to Unni.

One day Unni dies during an accident where he falls off a balcony. The mystery remains whether it was an accident or something else. Three years pass and one day Ousep receives a package which makes him hunt for the truth behind Unni's death. His meaningless life finds a purpose and he goes on to search for an answer to the mystery.

In this quest he gets involved in an aggressive encounter with a prominent neurosurgeon who threatens Unni's friends and also attends meeting of cartoonists. A parallel story about Thoma runs along wherein he falls madly in love with an older girl. She has dark secrets too and had previously befriended Thoma's elder brother, Unni. The Illicit Happiness of Other People is a story about love, mystery and a struggle to achieve something that adds meaning to life.
