This collection of short stories captures the exuberance and turmoil in the lives of young women – lives lived in the matrimonially ambitious class of Indian citizens, in convent schools run by Irish nuns, in hostels where working girls desperately try to evade marriage in order to forge careers and even across the seas, where Indians living abroad long for the country they can never return to.
