Top investigative journalist, Pat Traymore, is in Washington finding out everything she can about Abigail Jennings, the ambitious but highly secretive Senator tipped to be the first woman Vice-President. But Pat has another, deeply personal reason for being in Washington. As a child she suffered a horrifying experience which left her badly hurt and both her parents dead. Now, tormented by painful snatches of memory, she finds herself back in the old house which has the power to reveal secrets she thought long-buried. And as her search for the truth unleashes powerful and menacing forces against her, it looks as if the present may turn out to be even more terrifying than the past...
