This is a story spanning two centuries and four generations. Irene Heredia's memories go back to the Great War, soon after which her father died in the 'flu pandemic. She recalls her life in Goa, the uncle priest who served in Malacca, her mother who was widowed early, others in her family, and growing up in British India. This charming narrative has both private and public strands. In it, this Goan woman recalls her life in Bombay as student, wife and mother in a large extended family, and as social worker, civic activist and film censor, until her return to Goa in the 21st century.
