The planet Krypton is doomed to self destruct, but only Jor-El sees that future coming. The rest of the council forbid him from leaving his homeworld, but he still sends his only son, baby Kal-El, to Earth, where he is found by Jonathan and Martha Kent.

This prequel to "Superman Returns" closely follows the continuity of the 1978 film's first act.
