An alien capitalist has discovered the treasure trove of unique finds that is the planet Earth, and he's snatching up everything he can to sell. A small group of heroes and villains has escaped containment aboard his ship, but there's a field suppressing their powers. A few of them can manage to access some of their abilities, but most of them are helpless.The team has found the controls that are suppressing their powers, but there's an active power core between them and the controls. The only way to deactivate it is for someone to make a leap of faith. If they leapt after the core was deactivated, it would start back up before they were clear. They would have to fall eight seconds before it was shut down. Before the rough alliance these people have formed can fall apart, Superman leaps over the edge. But even if he succeeds, and they regain their powers, they still have to deal with the Auctioneer. What kind of deal could they offer him to leave the Earth alone?
