Ghost Rider, Vol. 1 (1973-1983)

A new biker appears at the Quentin Carnival - Steel Wind. And with her arrival, Quentin fires Johnny! Red Fowler tries to stand up for him, but Steel Wind nearly cripples him. The carny folk rally around Blaze, convincing Quentin to hold a contest - the winner stays. It seems Steel Wind works for someone, and that individual knows something about Quentin's past that gained her entry. Steel Wind is losing, even with a cheat, until Ghost Rider distracts Johnny at the wrong time! Johnny and reporter Cynthia Randolph depart... Vincenzo the magician, trying to help Eliot Franklin regain his sanity (see events two issues earlier), conjures a rose - and Steel Wind opines that only the ugliest truths survive. But Vincenzo saw something, and wonders if there is more to Steel Wind. He follows her and discovers she is a cyborg! There is a scream... Cynthia discovers some things about Steel Wind, and Johnny? He plays a hunch; they meet at the gate as both have decided to return. That very night, the carnies storm Quentin's trailer: they've had enough of Steel Wind's dictatorial reign! Enraged, Steel Wind unleashes her full bag of tricks, but they are not enough, and she meets the fate of so many of Ghost Rider's enemies: her soul burned by the fire that does not physical damage. She has failed, but her master - Freakmaster - is not done wit the Quentin Carnival...
