These tales, charming for all ages, come from the storytelling heritage of the Shasta, an Indian tribe that lived in the presence of the highest mountain in Northern California. A variety of myths recount the story of creation, of the animals, especially Coyote, Eagle, Bear, and phenomena such as Why Crickets are Black, Why the Sun Rolls, or Racing with Thunder.
