Syzygy

Capetown: Alembic, 1996 (1996)

Plot

Syzygy, meaning a union of opposites, views contemporary love relationships through the lens of alchemical imagery, blending its erotic and mystical elements with a light touch and a dash of irony. The book may be read merely as a diverting tale of the vagaries of Eros, but at a deeper level it reflects some of the ideas of the ancient art of alchemy that are still relevant today. Its four parts represent the classical stages of the alchemical opus, symbolised by the colours black, white, red and gold.
