A joint biography of husband and wife Walter Sisulu (1912-2003) en Albertina Sisulu, born Nontsikelelo Thetiwe (1918-2011). Born in small villages and with limited opportunities, they joined the African National Congress (ANC) and became two of the most prominent figures in the struggle against apartheid and for human rights in South Africa. The book tells the story of their marriage, politics, suffering and harassment, detention and 26 years of separation when Walter was imprisoned by the apartheid state. Walter Sisulu became secretary-general of the ANC and Albertina the co-president of the United Democratic Front, deputy president of the ANC Women's League and a member of parliament.
