Karolina Ferreira was awarded the M-Net book prize as well as the Old Mutual literary prize. Buller se plan received the WA Hofmeyr Prize. Her novel Niggie (2002) was awarded the Hertzog Prize in 2004. Winterbach is also an artist. She lives with her family in Durban.
