1 Enter Elesa, Electrifying Gym Leader! 30 min | Sep 22, 2011

In Nimbasa City, our heroes run into their old friend Bianca, who’s planning to challenge the Gym Leader, Elesa. Bianca tells her friends that Elesa is also a supermodel, and takes them to one of her fashion shows so they can check out her style before the battle! After the show, they gather at the Gym, where they discover Bianca’s dad waiting for them. He’s decided that Bianca isn’t ready for her journey and wants to take her home. She points out that he started his own journey as a Pokémon Trainer when he was young, but he won’t listen. At Elesa’s suggestion, Bianca makes a deal with her father: if she can beat the Gym Leader, she gets to continue her journey, but if she loses, she’ll have to go home with him. Unfortunately, Elesa’s powerful Zebstrika is more than a match for Bianca’s team. She sadly makes plans to leave with her father, but first Ash tries to convince him to let her stay. When words don’t work, he decides to challenge Bianca’s dad to a Pokémon battle instead. The stakes are similar: if Ash wins, Bianca gets to keep traveling with them…but if Ash loses, both he and Bianca have to go home! It turns out Bianca’s dad has quite a reputation as a powerful Trainer—in his younger days, he was known as the Red Meteor, and loved to battle with his Darmanitan, the Red Flash! Ash and Oshawott take them on, and during a lull in the battle (with some help from Iris and Cilan), he tells Bianca’s dad about all the good times they’ve had traveling together as friends. Bianca’s father ends up winning, but the battle and Ash’s stories of their travels have reminded him of his own journey. He changes his mind and advises Ash and Bianca to keep traveling and growing stronger together. So Bianca’s journey continues, thanks to our heroes—and Ash gets ready for his own battle with Gym Leader Elesa!

2 Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym! 30 min | Sep 29, 2011

In preparation for his challenge against Nimbasa Gym Leader Elesa, Ash is spending an extraordinary amount of time planning his strategy. The hard work proves valuable right away when their three-on-three battle begins: it’s Ash’s Palpitoad versus Elesa’s Zebstrika, who had defeated all of Bianca’s Pokémon the day before. Palpitoad, who’s immune to Electric-type moves, emerges victorious over the tough Zebstrika, but it’s exhausted. Ash decides to keep battling with Palpitoad anyway, and Elesa brings out her Emolga, an Electric and Flying type. Emolga manages to defeat Palpitoad, and that’s when we learn that Ash’s strategy was to count on Palpitoad’s type advantage to defeat all of Elesa’s Pokémon! After taking a surprise time out, Ash comes back with Snivy…but with its supereffective Flying-type moves, Emolga quickly takes Snivy down. Ash isn’t sure which Pokémon to use next…until Pikachu zaps him back to his senses! He brings his best buddy into the battle, and Pikachu defeats Emolga, forcing Elesa to bring out her secret weapon...the unlikely Tynamo. This tiny Pokémon proves to be powerful indeed, and Pikachu appears to be on the ropes. But Ash and Pikachu prove that their partnership is unmatched, as some quick thinking by both Trainer and Pokémon results in a unique strategy that overwhelms both Elesa and Tynamo! With the help of his trusty companion, Ash wins his fourth Unova Gym Badge!

4 Ash Versus the Champion! 30 min | Oct 13, 2011

Just as our heroes are ready to head across the drawbridge to Driftveil City, they run into Ash’s rival, Trip. Ash wants to battle, of course, but Trip is waiting to meet Alder, the Unova League Champion! When Trip was a young boy, Alder had advised him to work hard and get strong as a Trainer, and someday they would battle. So when they finally see Alder (who is unexpectedly flirting with Officer Jenny), both Ash and Trip challenge him to a battle! Ash goes first, and it’s Pikachu vs. Bouffalant—but during the battle, Alder dozes off. Annoyed, Alder’s Bouffalant goes after him instead of Pikachu, and after being hit by an extraordinary Head Charge, Alder declares himself the loser and says he’s done for the day. Trip storms off when he realizes he won’t get his battle after all, and Alder invites our heroes to dinner at the Pokémon Center. The Champion chats with Ash, Iris, and Cilan about what their goals are and how to achieve them, and when they all decide that getting stronger is the most important thing, he disagrees. He’s just beginning to explain when they’re interrupted by Nurse Joy (another target of Alder’s flirting). She needs Alder’s help for a Pokémon emergency: an angry Gigalith on a rampage through the city! Alder goes to the rescue, and after he and Bouffalant manage to corner Gigalith, he figures out the problem: a nail embedded in the huge Pokémon’s foot. He removes the nail, and quickly gets Gigalith calmed down. After the crisis is over, Alder finally has time to explain his philosophy: to him, the most important thing is not getting stronger through battle, but helping people and Pokémon to grow closer. He wishes them luck, and our heroes begin their journey to Driftveil City and Ash’s next Gym Battle!

Ash observes that the three Maractus aren’t in sync with each other, and suggests a Triple Battle to get the trio back on track. During the battle, Toby tries to pull off Over the Rainbow again, and it fails spectacularly, sending Tussy crashing to the ground. Toby finally figures out that Tussy is afraid of heights, but he’s still determined to make the performance work. After another failed attempt, Toby gets upset and yells at Tussy, who runs away in embarrassment just as the Pokémon Performance Competition is about to begin. Robert says he wants to find where that mysterious picture was taken, and our heroes offer to help. Climbing a mountain, they spot a Deerling, which Robert knows might lead them to Sawsbuck. But when a thick fog rolls in, Ash and Robert are separated from the others. They decide to stop for the night after an unsuccessful search for the Deerling, who ran away when the fog appeared. The next morning, they are awakened by the same Deerling, who wants them to follow it. As they walk, Robert accidentally disturbs a group of Amoonguss, who attack him with poison! Ash vows to get him off the mountain for some medicine, but as the fog rolls in once again, the Deerling returns, this time followed by a Sawsbuck. The two Pokémon lead Ash and Robert to the same hot spring where Robert’s grandfather took his photo—and where the four seasons of Sawsbuck have gathered once again! The warming light from the spring heals Robert immediately, and he manages to snap the photo he’s been seeking before the Sawsbuck disappear into the fog once again. Ash and Robert are then reunited with Iris and Cilan, and are surprised to discover that the strange fog apparently affected time—while Ash and Robert spent the night on the mountain, Iris and Cilan insist they’ve only been looking for them for ten minutes! Robert takes the opportunity to show off his prized Sawsbuck photo, and although the image is shrouded in fog and hard to see, he’s quite happy with the experience. Iris jumps at the chance to help out, so she, Ash, and Cilan volunteer to watch over the three Deino until their Trainers return. Two of the Deino are happy and playful, but the Deino that Iris is looking after appears frightened and lonely—and it’s refusing to eat, which is very strange for a Deino. Vowing to calm it down and get it eating again, Iris and Axew stay with the frightened Deino night and day, while it cowers in hiding. The other two Trainers show up on schedule, but the frightened Deino’s Trainer is nowhere to be seen. Our heroes begin to wonder if the Trainer has somehow forgotten to come back for his Deino, and Iris tries to convince Ash and Cilan to go on to Driftveil City without her so Ash can have his Gym battle while she stays with Deino. They refuse, of course, promising to stick together and make sure Deino gets home safely. Finally, several days later, Deino’s Trainer does show up. He apologizes profusely, explaining that he was training in Chargestone Cave and got lost. Deino is overjoyed to see him, and although it’s a bittersweet moment for Iris, who has grown quite fond of Deino, she is happy that the two of them have finally been reunited. Inspired by this encounter, both Iris and Ash vow to train even harder—Iris to become a Dragon Master, and Ash to crush his next Gym battle! And so, it’s off to Driftveil City once again.
