Eli Stone
Eli Stone (Jonny Lee Miller), a successful lawyer at a San Francisco firm, represents some of the biggest companies in America -- companies that have a tendency to screw over the little guy. But after a series of hallucinations, Eli begins to wonder if he was meant for something bigger in life. As he goes about his daily life seeking for a deeper meaning, Eli tries to not lose his job or lose his relationship with the boss's daughter, Taylor Wethersby (Natasha Henstridge). Everything changes when he discovers he has an aneurysm in his brain, forcing Eli to reflect on his life and decide if his condition is medical or if his life was meant for something bigger.
Four months post-surgery, Eli must make a decision, and come to terms with it, in order to save Jordan's life.
Eli's case dealing with how a soldier is to be buried somehow connects to a woman who may be his soul mate, and Jordan's new direction for the firm is opposed by the senior partners.
Eli's latest vision - with an assist from his dad's diary - causes him to abandon Jordan's competency hearing and focus on a case he believes will take him to the supreme court, ultimately forcing him to choose between knowing his own future and living his life.
Martin Posner makes tempting offers to everyone at the firm, and Taylor asks Eli to work with Matt, hoping to influence his decision. Meanwhile, Eli's visions involving Maggie are disturbing on more than one level, and he faces some tough decisions as the firm transitions to its new mission.
Eli chooses to ignore his visions of fire as he pursues a new client, a leak is handing Posner & Klein the firms clients, and Patti asks Keith for help with her daughter.
Nate's involvement in Eli's case brings back bad memories of their father, and Eli revisits his vision when he begins to doubt its interpretation.
Eli's vision contradicts the evidence when Patti's daughter is arrested, and he struggles with the effect his gift has on those with whom he's close. Matt's proclamation leaves him feeling unfulfilled.
Eli defends a young woman he believes will save humanity, Taylor learns some uncomfortable truths when she insists on being part of Jordan's divorce team, and Eli's insistence on a risky procedure reveals a future for which he's not prepared.
Keith has to face his own bigotry in order to effectively represent his pastor, Eli's visions with the dark truth foretell complications with Nate's wedding.
Taylor, Maggie, Matt and Eli go to Sonoma when it turns out both firms are after the same witness, Patti makes amends, Jordan finds socializing difficult, and an unexpected turn to a work meeting will change Maggie and Eli's relationship.
Still estranged from his brother and Chen, Eli struggles to understand his visions of gladiator-era and present-day Rome as the Sam Russell trial moves forward. Meanwhile, Maggie maneuvers a little revenge into the proceedings, Jordan has news about the firm, and Taylor challenges Matt about what kind of father he's going to be.
Jordan takes what may be the firm's last case, suing an executive for malpractice, and Eli's vision of a plane bound for Africa will give him insights not only for the trial but into his father.
The firm tries to force devout parents to donate their daughter's heart to an atheist, and Eli's vision of another plane crash causes him to risk the Dark Truth again, but the death he sees is unexpected.
