Set on a Wolverhampton council estate, Raised By Wolves is modern day reimagining of the childhood of Caitlin Moran and her brothers and sisters.
Single-mum Della lives in a three bedroom council house with Germaine, Aretha, Yoko, Mariah, Wyatt and baby Cher. She is attempting to raise the children by herself, but does have visits from Grampy, who likes to come around to dispense his wisdom to his grandchildren.

Single mother Della Garry lives on a Wolverhampton estate with her five daughters and son Wyatt. Into self-sufficiency she is home educating them and aims to have her own water supply by buying a huge rain barrel but it gets stuck in the wall. Eldest daughter Germaine is smitten by local bad boy Lee Rind, even though he is meant to have shot a snail with an air rifle, and has built a shrine to him. Sensible next eldest Aretha is practical and politically aware but they both bicker over who should mow the lawn. They get a visit from pot-smoking Grampy, fleeing an argument with his wife whom he calls Dr No. After taking the kids out in his car to collect his stash, he stays the night and is very smelly.
Della takes the girls foraging for free food on the common. On the way Lee Rhind rescues Germaine's scarf from bullies and she is even more thrilled to see his house is next to the common. The girls find foraging boring and the onset of Yoko's period halts the exercise. However Germaine returns with Aretha to touch the Rhinds' house but gets her hand stuck in the letter box. With Grampy busy indulging in afternoon delight a panic call to Della is required to save the situation.
Germaine interrupts her sisters' Britain's Got talent session to announce that she needs new knickers and, since Yoko also needs a new bra, Della grudgingly takes her daughters to town, shopping. The girls guess that she is bad-tempered because it is her birthday so they sneak off to buy her a present - but only have six minutes before their free parking runs out. Wyatt meanwhile spends the day with Grampy, who has his own, highly unusual, present for Della.
Cousin Cathy calls by unannounced and everybody is pleased to see her - except Germaine, and to make matters worse Cathy attracts the desirable Lee Rhind. To get even Germaine takes her on at cards and a quiz, losing both times. Della manages to stop her from leaving home but is unable to stop Grampy from causing more damage to the garden than the pesky cat he is trying to trap.
Della believes that the girls should socialize more and makes them attend the birthday party for depressive Uncle Natie, whose wife has left him. Yoko is very nervous but is declared a champion due to her unexpected skill at computer games whilst Germaine is annoyed to find that Cathy has invited Lee Rhind as her guest. To add insult to injury she gets locked in a wardrobe and has to see Cathy kissing Lee before Aretha frees her. Della on the other hand does find romance, with hunky break-down man Michael, who helps her to put the tired and emotional Natie to bed.
After Grampy's mother dies and his wife dumps him - literally, in a layby - Della decides he should move in with the family and takes Aretha to collect his mourning clothes, narrowly avoiding a meeting with her hated mother. Germaine has her own, bizarre , way of dealing with grief but, the funeral over, the Garrys discover that, thanks to Grampy's wife's spiteful actions, he is likely to be a permanent guest at the hose.
Germaine is thrilled to hear that Lee Rhind is on the market again after a split from Cathy and discovers that he is going to the Dorchester night club. Della consents to her going - provided she takes Yoko, whose dancing is a hit, and Aretha. However having been mistaken for a prostitute and realizing that she is irresistible to men Germaine ditches Lee whilst Della's night out with Michael proves positive, in that they are both scavengers from supermarket waste bins. On returning home though the whole family is in for a shock.
