After a group of teens from a small Midwestern town begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of an urban legend known as The Empty Man. My quick rating - 5,5/10. I'll give it points for trying really hard to come up with something new on a take that has been done many times before. The cult conjuring up some supreme being type thing. But this movie tried to do way too much (hence the 137 minute runtime) which could have been trimmed down. Still it does succeed in telling its story even if it took too long in doing so. In the course of investigating the disappearance of a local girl, a retired cop (James Badge Dale) uncovers an urban legend called the Empty Man which is awakened by blowing in a bottle at night on a bridge. Something we most likely all have done, ok, maybe not all, but still may want to check over your shoulder. So after this you have but 3 days before he arrives and then everyone is in danger. As you'd expect, the cop does so and now he and anyone around him is in trouble. Then the point I made takes over as it flies way off the rails in what it tries to do, and I can't go much further into it without spoilers. I liked the idea of it more so than the usual fare of this type lately but in forcing the outcome, it lost some of its luster. This one could go either way up or down depending on your tastes, so I would leave this in a check it out and see what you think. Looks pretty good, especially at the beginning.
