Deke, a burnt-out Kern County, CA deputy sheriff teams with Baxter, a crack LASD detective, to nab a serial killer. Deke's nose for the "little things" proves eerily accurate, but his willingness to circumvent the rules embroils Baxter in a soul-shattering dilemma. Meanwhile, Deke must wrestle with a dark secret from his past.

My quick rating - 6,3/10. Don't get me wrong, it was good. The cast is top notch, especially Jared Leto. But if you are going to hand me Denzel, Rami and Leto in a cop after a serial killer killer flick, I expect a good story to go along with it. Take me on some twists and turns. Show the range these actors have. Do all the things I expected and gave me none of. Yes, that acting is fine but the story just doesn't have enough to give much more than necessary. I don't want average out of them, I want a damn sequel to "Seven" type of quality. And no, I wasn't expecting that but there has been more mystery in a standard "Lincoln Rhymes" episode than this had. You have Denzel, the local deputy who was the big gun in LA until he broke. When that happened, Rami Malek stepped in. Due to forensic circumstance, Denzel comes back to LA and they end up teaming together. Without giving spoilers, that leaves Leto as a suspect. Guess that was a spoiler but the cast kinda gave it away. It has all the trimmings of a professional piece of cinema, but I would be lying if I didn't say I was disappointed. Perfectly fine for a night in streaming or a matinee assuming the theater is open but surely won't be calling your buddies and texting them to get in line.
