Notes

My quick rating - 6,4/10. Great continuity from the 2018 Halloween. The way the ending of that last one went, they at least did a good job bringing it forward in a plausible manner. I know everyone, including myself, was pleading for a higher body count than the previous venture. David Gordon Green and the writing crew listened and upped the ante. It doesn't go overboard in gore, just makes sure the numbers are more what we should expect from a very pissed of Michael Myers (still referred to as "The Shape") There is no way to review without giving away spoilers from the 2018 version easily, so I'll just point out that again they have found a way to make Myers frightening again. Finding a way to survive, he is back and after basically everyone, not just Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Taking place immediately at the end of that version, we are started off with a very brief synopsis of the Halloween universe for those that have been abandoned in a cave for the past 40 years. Now back in Haddonfield a group of previous survivors from attacks on their town has gathered in remembrance of the victims while being unaware the shape is still alive. The entire atmosphere is dark as it should be and the camera work is quite good at keeping your content scanning the screen for him. I do have this rated an entire decimal point higher than the previous but I do believe this one captures more of what Myers should be. I also do like the direction they are going with asking the question of why does Michael Myers continue to kill? Why is Strode the center of his rage? I wasn't sure if they were alluding to the whole Thorn cult thing in this one. I will say this one suffers from another scene that is entirely too drawn out even if it is something to note. Showing the mob mentality and how it would effect a small town such as this makes perfect sense but it just went on far longer than it needed to. I had a similar gripe in my review of the 2018 Halloween which can be seen in the link. Overall, a good time for #shocktober and becoming a staple since next year at this time, we will be watching Halloween Ends. Streaming now on Peacock if you have at least the $4.99/month premium membership.
