My quick rating - 7.4/10. Another Best Picture nominee for #Oscars2022, which you can check out on Amazon by clicking the poster below. Now halfway through the lineup this year, we have the story of the Williams sisters' grandiose after being coached by their father, Richard, played perfectly by Will Smith. He is also nominated for best actor and is very deserving. I found it a nice change of pace watching a biopic that deals with a subject I have grown up watching as well. If you weren't paying attention throughout on ESPN, Richard was a very overbearing father who basically decided that his two daughters were going to be the biggest stars in tennis. So he set out to personally train them to be good enough to then move on to professional training. But everything was always on his terms on how things happened, which led to hitting some humor at times, while other times drama. His eccentric ways were what defined his kids to become the superstars they are now. In a way, this almost let the door open for a sequel, not really for Richard Williams, but to continue the story as to what happened with Serena, since the main focus here is on Venus. The family interactions are all well filmed and completely believable throughout, which should entertain the masses, including those that really don't care about tennis. The story itself is very basic, so there aren't any twists and turns. Just a solid film about true human emotion that tells how these two superstars were raised, and might give some insight into how it all actually happened.
