My quick rating - 4,5/10. A couple of things at play here. First, I may even be a bit generous because of Bruce Campbell. Second, for that same reason, I may have set the bar entirely too high for this movie. So instead of a feature-length version of "S-Mart" we are given an extremely tame alien-zombie type comedy/horror flick. So while this isn't a bad thing, it was just a very uneven attempt that had so many of their jokes fall flat. I do applaud the use of practical effects and makeup for the very Evil Dead inspired possessed alien shoppers. Since I have alluded to it, what we have here is a toy store opening up the doors early for the mad rush of Black Friday shopping but instead of the crazed people trampling each other to death, we have a mysterious blob that is infecting people and turning them into lunatic deformed killers. It sounds a lot better than what we get. The gore is tuned way down to nearly non-existent. The action is ok when it is happening but has to fight with the melodrama of the coworkers bitching at each other too often. While this is going on, the infected people get absorbed into the blob itself to keep growing into every retail worker's nightmare, a giant day after Thanksgiving shopper. Yes, this is amusing as are some of the jokes that are thrown in geared towards anyone who has worked retail but it also looks so campy that I felt more like they just got bored at the end and didn't do anything with their monster creation. I think this was just a lot of hope for what could've been. I mean, Michael Jai White is in the movie, and yes, they completely missed the chance of what they could've done with him (Spawn, anyone????). As with this whole production, missed chances so if you do venture out to see it, you may be amused but in the end, it is very forgettable. Yet still will be in my collection.
