Notes

My quick rating - 6,5/10. Sounded interesting and there happened to be a dubbed version. The original Spanish version I have (El Desconcido) was also a good flick but I hadn't seen it in about 5 years and had subtitles. Yes, I am fully aware of what dubbing does to the quality of a film but it is a necessary evil if multi-tasking! In this case, the dubbing didn't really ruin anything. An extra unintentional laugh or two but that is always expected. So the story is still the same following a wealthy banker who receives a mysterious phone call that changes his entire life. This flick is making the rounds (I haven't seen the German version) and again is slated for the Hollywood treatment at some point with Liam Neeson called Retribution (English title of the Spanish version). Ok, with the trivia out of the way, you can more or less call this a mix between Speed and Phone Booth. This is due to the fact that the call he receives informs him of a bomb underneath the car seats and exiting the vehicle will detonate them. So with the kids in the backseat, he must follow the instructions from the villain and obtain an absurd amount of money in a short period of time to save himself and his kids. Ji Chang-Wook does a fantastic job in the lead role here and comes off very believable. The movie does a great job keeping the tension up for the entire 94 minutes with very little downtime. Great cinematography helps keep up with the fast pace of this one as the story of why this is all happening unravels. and the music goes along just as well. The secondary characters are appropriately developed to add to keep you involved in the story. Aside from some questionable tactics throughout when related to the police handling of the situation, the overall product was worth a look. Side note: I believe I was a bit closer to 7 on the Spanish version but without taking a look again, I don't know. The originals are typically better but I don't think you can go wrong either way.
