My quick rating - 4,4/10. Quick shuffle for #shocktober while I am working. Currently streaming on Amazone prime. I immediately am liking the creepy atmosphere that is created by a pseudo-black-and-white look to it. It isn't b/w just certain scenes are while others have a purposely washed out look to the colors That long with very subtle use of music in the background really is setting the mood. Not a good movie for background noise since it roped me into wondering what is going on with the weird step-mom and her mask, and the mother who is estranged from the family for some reason. So showing off some very good aesthetics trapped me into an extremely slow-moving story that had glimpses of hope never recognized. I watched and they would occasionally have a scene that alludes to horror but for the most part, nothing really happened until the last 10 minutes or so. I will say a couple of scares in this one were well-filmed and the cinematographer deserves some real kudos. But I am left with characters and images that were completely unexplained such as a neighbor and a clown on the TV. It was more like they were there to create mood and raise questions that the writers had no intention of answering. Even what I mentioned with the mistress and her mask goes basically unexplained in what the mask is even for and what her role in this movie even is. The whole movie does revolve around the father Nicholas Tucci who like the rest of the cast does a fine job with what they are working with but in explaining his grief they fail to explain too much of the story. I felt like it was a great example of "all style and no substance" so my recommendation is if you are a real fan of indie horror it would be worth a watch, once.
