A small rural town in Maine is shocked as a mysterious animal leaves a local resident brutally ripped apart. Deemed to be a random bear attack by town officials, freelance journalist Max Frome suspects it might be something more.

My quick rating - 3.8/10. So far, we have a monster flick that has some above-average production quality attached to it. There is a reason why movies like Anaconda or Lake Placid are entertaining even though they may not be considered "Good," and that is because they have fun with their campiness. This movie is the exact opposite of that. As I was watching, I really wanted to like this flick. Unknown creature in the woods, very good quality camerawork, but then the dialogue starts, and every actor is so wooden in their delivery. That leads us to the creature. They must've spent all their budget on the 4K cameras since our monster is a joke. So, as much as I was invested in what was going on, what they were presenting as a story and how they were giving it was so subpar. The explanation of the reptilian thing is so flimsy, nor do they explain why it is even killing anyone. The writers may have been shooting for a "stop destroying nature" narrative, but it was presented very well if that was their intent. Also, the holes they keep finding in the ground where the creature comes and goes from are the size of a rabbit, while the upright lizard they show is about 6 feet tall (yes, the thing stands upright). The whole thing is a shiny creature feature from the '50s. Without any suspense and no kills to speak of. If you run across this one, you will get roped into how nice it looks, but you'll end up pissed at the end when you see they have the audacity to set up a sequel to this crap. I should most likely stop since I'll start questioning my rating by being angered.
Amazon has a 4K rental only for some reason by clicking below but Vudu is cheaper.
